| The literature on mafic dykes in the West African craton is dominated by the identification of the so-called Central Atlantic Magmatic Province, although it has become increasingly apparent that not all mafic dykes fall into this category. In this presentation we present a synthesis of mafic dykes drawn principally from the interpretation of the increasingly complete airborne magnetic coverage across the craton. This synthesis, which currently extends from Mauritania to Ghana, demonstrates the complexity of the mafic dyke record, suggesting that extensive petrological, geochemical, geochronological and paleomagnetic work remains to be done before we can unravel this particular story. |
