| The development of both the content and the infrastructure for a European Distributed Archive of Historical Earthquake is the aim of NERIES NA4 module.
The NA4 Archive consists of local, coherent, units and a central core, to be constantly updated.
"Local Archives" are based on regional data-centres where each reference institution is responsible for the development and update of the locally gathered material.
The "Central Core Archive" is a coordinating structure based on:
- the inventory of the earthquakes and related studies;
- the published or unpublished material on which earthquakes parameters are based;
- the European Macroseismic Database (EMD) for large events;
- the European Parametric Earthquake Catalogue.
This material needs to be put together filling the geographical and operational gaps between regional archives for the most important events; for this purpose the NA4 team developed a shared general philosophy, rules and formats among all the involved partners (Italy, Greece, Spain, Switzerland and UK) and kept informed also non partners.
This material is handled by a taylored tool that covers every aspect of the archive; by means of this material is made available to partners, users and public according to a system of multiple priorities. In particular, an open-source tool supporting the EMD database has been developed too and interactive maps are directly available from the NA4 website. |
