| In Central Spain new, relatively mighty Loess deposits were discovered and described for the
first time. This contribution aims to show the distribution of Loess in Central Spain, the local
deposition conditions, some features in terms of geochemical and granulometric
characteristics (including analyzing problems) and a preliminary time estimation of the
deposition. Some soils within the sequences point to sedimentation standstill. The builtup of
these loess deposits show similarities in the entire region beginning with loessic material
strongly reworked with underground material mixed in. To the top of the sequence the Loess
becomes more and more pure interrupted by some weak soil formations. Loess
deposition and soil formation obviously happened during MIS 3 and 4 showing changing
environmental conditions. Our time resolution is at the moment to imprecise to answer the
question of process duration. A new project will focus on precise dating, detailed work
on the exposures in terms of environmental magnetism and biomarker analyses. |
