Zusammenfassung
Precipitation characteristics are said to differ between oceanic and continental ones, as reported in numerous studies. However the detailed in-situ data over ocean is quite rare. To investigate oceanic precipitation in various aspect, we are continuing the observation using the shipboard disdrometer, dual-polarization radar, etc. onboard the research vessel Mirai, who cruises various climatological region including tropical western Pacific, Indian Ocean, Arctic Ocean, etc. Focusing the tropical rainfall, similarity and difference on the drop size distribution are examined between; land and ocean, open ocean and coastal sea, tropics and mid-latitude, etc. Furthermore, characteristics of the drop size distribution for heavy rainfall over the Maritime Continent and adjacent seas are examined by combining variety of shipboard data, as a part of recent field campaign named "Pre-YMC", a pilot study for the Years of the Maritime Continent.
