| Several Databases of Loss data are available today to end users and practitioners. The goals supported by such databases are different and therefore the level and type of information that can be extracted from them varies strongly form one another. In addition to that, they are many times limited to reporting various level of damages, but rarely they record ancillary information about the causes, the context and the preconditions of the event. All these pieces of information are produced and stored many times at national or even at global scale, but they are not connected to the loss database for additional analysis. Current technology could help in moving towards a more comprehensive concept of loss database that includes information about flood footprints, preconditions, observed and forecast forcing, pre-existing vulnerability assessments. A possible roadmap that moves the first steps towards this direction is proposed. |
