| There has been a significant increase in gully erosion research during the last decade. The increasing knowledge on the topic has encouraged several authors to review several aspects of gully erosion such as modelling, gully processes or challenges for future research. Hitherto, no specific review on the characteristics of experimental studies has been undertaken.
The aim of this work is to carry out a preliminary review of the measurements methodologies applied for gully erosion assessment. For this purpose a random sample of scientific articles from the last seventy years were considered. We evaluated, among other aspects, the techniques, time span, data collection frequency, measured properties and errors involved. In this study we discuss the main trends found, the comparability of their results and the implications derived for future experimental design. |
