| The Extreme Windstorms Catalogue (XWS) is a database of the most extreme windstorms to hit Europe over the last 30 years. We aim to create a database comparable to the HURDAT database of the tropical cyclone community, which is currently not existent for extra-tropical cyclones. The catalogue should be a valuable resource for both scientists and the re/insurance industry, and will contain information on the individual storm tracks and maximum gust footprints on a resolution of 25km. The catalogue will be publicly released by the end of 2013. Here we present an update of progress, including details on the storm tracking, how the storms in the catalogue will be selected, and the methods used to produce and bias correct the windgust footprints. |
