Zusammenfassung
"La Clapière" is a famous French landslide situated at Saint Etienne de Tinée in the Alpes (80Km from Nice). It's one of the most important landslides of Europe (800m high and 2km wide) and a very well-instrumented geological site in France. With the help of the specialists of the University of Nice Sophia-Antipolis and the technical services of the "Département des Alpes Maritimes" , my colleague JL Bérenguer and myself have created a pedagogical website about this phenomenon which disturbed the populations and the local economy. Known since the 18th century, it was particularly frightening during the '90s. The local population knew how to adapt to the situation and find means to keep the risk at bay, to anticipate it and avoid it. All those in agreement with their economic interests ! We put on-line numerous data on the speeds of sliding, the meteorological and geological parameters of the site. All these data must enable the pupil to make the relationships between the various parameters and emit a hypothesis about the causes of this phenomenon. An approach of the techniques of supervision and protection is also envisaged. This example shows a complete view of the management of a major risk : understanding it, predicting it and living with it.
