Zusammenfassung |
Carbon dioxide is a perfect tracer of atmospheric transport and has been used for many years to estimate the age of air in the stratosphere. Until recently very few profiles from balloon soundings were available. It is now possible to obtain stratospheric CO2 profiles with a vertical resolution of a few kilometres from the processing of occultation data of ACE-FTS (Foucher et al., ACP, 2009 and ACPD, 2010). We perform comparisons between these profiles and CO2 concentrations simulated by a Lagrangian transport model advecting parcels backward using winds and diabatic heating rates from ECMWF ERA-Interim reanalysis, and tropospheric estimates of CO2 from monitoring network and CarbonTracker. These comparisons allow to assess the representation of the Brewer-Dobson circulation in the ERA-Interim over a multi-year period and to analyze its seasonal and Interannual variability. |
