Soon after OMEGA had started to acquire spectral images of the Mars surface and atmosphere, an in-depth re-writing of Mars History was elaborated, exhibiting an early and global climatic change ending an era of during which Mars might have harboured habitable conditions, identified by the presence of phyllosilicates in spots within the ancient crust. Most data acquired afterwards, both by OMEGA/Mars Express and CRISM/MRO, confirm and fine tune the sequence of events which paved the evolution of Mars over its first billion years. We shall present an overview of Mars History as it appears nowadays, primarily based on Mars and Phobos OMEGA/Mars Express observations. |
