Zusammenfassung |
Within the EPOS Research Infrastructure initiative, the international European coordination of the seismological research infrastructure is coordinated through ORFEUS (www.orfeus-eu.org) and EMSC (www.emsc-csem.org), emphasizing respectively waveform data services to the research community and earthquake information to the larger public. Both have a well established and well functioning organisational structure resulting in internationally recognized services.
To enable more user interaction and multidisciplinary applications the services provided by ORFEUS and EMSC are currently being upgraded. This is done in collaboration with individual research institutes in and around Europe. EC-projects like NERIES (2006-2010, EC grant 026130) and NERA (2010-2014, EC grant 262330) support specific initiatives in IT, among others web-services, distributed archives, real-time data exchange software, and coordination, such as mobile deployments, acceleration data, borehole observations, etc. These developments are well integrated within the overall concept of EPOS.
We will present a short overview of these initiatives and its comparisons with similar initiatives in the US. Emphasis will be given to initiatives aiming at multidisciplinary data integration and on-going IT developments. We hope to trigger a debate on how these initiatives can be integrated with European RI of other geoscience disciplines, specifically within the context of the EPOS initiative. |
