Zusammenfassung |
The construction of a global educational and development programmes in volcanology is a major strategy of Laboratoire Magmas et Volcans (LMV, Clermont-Ferrand, France). The Institute of Research for Development (IRD), incorporates permanent researchers into the LMV, and all LMV researchers can spend extended periods working in with local volcanologists in developing nations. We have research partnerships all around the globe, and a unique Master's in Magmas and Volcanoes, which is open to all nationalities at very competitive cost, due to the subsidised French educational system. The master's is twinned with the Milan-Bicocca, Michigan Tech and University at Buffalo, through the INVOGE Atlantis masters programme, has many ERASMUS exchange programmes and is developing a sandwich master with the National Institute of Geological Sciences in the Philippines. This educational programme is multi-lingual, respecting the local and international need to train researchers capable of working in both the local and the international environments. For this presentation we generalise to present the main strategies for international volcanological education, including mobility (virtual and real), cultural exchange, linguistic exchange, joint programmes. We discuss the problems of opening up national systems to international awareness, both culturally, linguistically and administratively, and suggest perspectives for taking such programmes into a true international network of interchange. |
