Zusammenfassung
Within ESA's Living Planet Programme, one key objective is to determine a terrestrial gravity field solution solely based on GOCE (Gravity field and steady-state Ocean Circulation Explorer) data. Due to the restricted measurement bandwidth of the gradiometer instrument, satellite gravity gradiometry has to be supplemented by orbit analysis in order to resolve long-wavelength features of the geopotential. In this context, the energy conservation approach gained particular interest to exploit high-low satellite-to-satellite (SST) tracking information. As an - from our point of view - superior alternative, we propose to estimate the low-frequency part of the gravity field by means of the acceleration approach. The method is characterized by second-order numerical differentiation of the kinematic orbit. In order to apply the method to GOCE, we present tailored orbit data preprocessing with regard to numerical differentiation, filtering and outlier detection. The geopotential coefficients are solved for by standard least-squares adjustment and robust estimators. We compare our results with both GOCE SST solutions provided by other research groups and state-of-the-art GRACE gravity field estimates. Moreover, we outline the pros and cons of the acceleration approach opposed to alternative SST analysis strategies.
