Zusammenfassung
The International Space Station reaches both its 12th year of operations and its completion according to its original agreement. It represents a 35 year development effort and prepares to the human exploration of Moon, Mars and beyond. This communication reviews the achievements of the effort performed since the manned moon exploration flights and how they improved the pre-Apollo situation. In particular, the capability of man to operate during long missions and science enhancement related with ground support interaction will be shown. This communication will balance the advantages of robotic exploration and manned exploration on the basis of both Apollo and ISS.
