| During a decade the vector magnetometer on the CHAMP satellite has provided continuous measurements of the Earth's magnetic field from space.
The magnetometer on CHAMP was designed specifically to provide high precision measurements of the Earth's. CHAMP carries two high precision vector magnetometers that are placed on a boom few meters away from the body of the satellite.
This paper will describe the magnetometry package on CHAMP, and will present the potentials on the instruments on the planned Swarm and for use in future missions with gradiometers. |
