| On the 23-24th of January 2009 an explosive cyclogenesis developed in the Atlantic. As a latter consequence, a very intense windstorm dramatically affected to the Northern part of Spain, South of France and Western Mediterranean.
The forecast of the cyclone obtained from an authomatic procedure running on AEMET SREPS has been verified in front of the deterministic operational analysis of ECMWF.
In this presentation, the diagnostics of the case at its first stages and the verification results are showed. From the entire study, it can be concluded that the conditions at Western Atlantic some days before of the event were crucial for the first stages of the cyclone, its latter development and its predictability. |
