| The African continent has been identified by the Task Forcefor Regional Climate Downscaling as a region of special need and interest and prioritized as the region of preference to be downscaled in the CoOrdinated Regional Downscaling Experiment (CORDEX). The Climate Systems Analysis Group at the University of Cape Town is one of the few groups in Africa with the computational capacity to undertake numerical downscaling within the scope required by CORDEX. This paper addresses the particular challenges faced in an African context and presents initial results from runs using WRF and Precis models. These results are used to emphasize the importance of the co-ordinated downscaling effort over the African continent. |
