Zusammenfassung
Upcoming European Grid Virtual Earth Science Community In the framework of the upcoming European distributed compute infrastructure and its related services deployed by the European Grid Initiative, EGI, the Earth Science Virtual Grid Research Infrastructure (ES VRC) will bring together all ES partners (i.e. resource and service providers, developers, support teams as well as end-users). Partners from the ES and the grid community show a strong scientific and technical interest to work together. This network of support and expertise, as constituted by the ES VRC, will be a strong collaboration to provideES specific Grid expertise in order to bear down the entry barrier and overcome some of the technical difficulties that otherwise exist. The ES VRC consists of 9 Virtual Organizations with partners in 23 European or associated countries and links to EELA2, EUAsia and African partners. In this new organizational model, ES VRC will support its user community for domain specific applications, techniques, data sets and other non conventional Grid resources (e.g. instruments and network sensors). ES VRC has to fulfill the requirements addressed by its user community; this could trigger the development of new components or interfaces for specific domains, and the re-design and implementation of tools and services related to the middleware evolution. We will introduce in this presentation the new ES VRC and the new opportunity to use the European Grid infrastructure for Science. An introduction about the support and collaboration opportunities of the ES VRC is given and how the VRC may influence EGI to fulfill requirements of the Earth Science Community.
