Between 1855 and 1857 Austrian topographers made the first topographic survey of Walachia. The topographic map was printed in Vienna in 1864 at scale 1: 57 600, on 112 sheets. The map has a significant position in the Romanian cartographic heritage. The Romanian title of the map was “Charta Rom-niei Meridionale”, it is known also as the “Fligely–Szathmáry map” (August von Fligely was the director of the Austrian Military Geographical Institute at that time, Szathmáry reproduced the map). The author on this poster describes the map, its datum, projection and the system of the sheet numbering. Thus we will have the possibility of georeferencing the map sheets to apply its content in environmental geosciences. |
