| The International Reference Ionosphere (IRI) is an international project sponsored by COSPAR and URSI that has as its goal the development and improvement of a data-based model of ionospheric densities, temperatures, and velocities using all available and reliable data sources for these ionospheric parameters. We will report about recent IRI activities including the 2009 IRI Workshop and the preparations of the next version of the model, IRI-2010. A number of groups have used IRI together with actual measurements to obtain a real-time description of ionospheric conditions. A special task force activity in Colorado Springs in early 2009 brought together representatives from these groups to discuss the development of a Real-Time IRI (RTIRI). Results from this workshop will be discussed in this talk. We will also point to ways in which the IRI developments will benefit the EURIPOS program and how EURIPOS activities could feed back into improvements of IRI. |
