| The effect of changing carbonate chemistry on the calcification of Emiliania huxleyi was extensively studied in recent years. However, different studies report opposing responses: most studies show a decrease of calcification rate with increasing CO2 concentration, but an increase was also reported. The reason for this discrepancy is unknown. Here we tested the hypothesis that strain-specific responses are the reason for this discrepancy. |
