Abstract
In the frame of the EU TRANSFER project, aimed at better understanding tsunami hazard and risk assessment in the European region, one of the main items is the improvement of the European tsunami catalogue. In particular, some geographical areas present a remarkable lack of reliable tsunami data and, therefore, further investigation on tsunami events is required. In this work we have focused our attention on possible tsunami events occurred in the northern and central Adriatic Sea involving both the eastern and the western coasts. Special attention has been devoted to events that, according to literature, occurred along the Croatian coast since 1667 to present days. During the study all the available material gathered in the Italian and Croatian archives, that is specific monographs and scientific papers as well as articles available in contemporary chronicles and in local and national newspapers, was analysed in order to find description of tsunami effects.
The final result of this research will improve our knowledge of the tsunamigenic activity in the Adriatic sea area and will contribute to the assessment of the tsunami hazard and risk along the coasts. |
