| GloSea4, the Met Office Global Seasonal forecasting system version 4, has recently been developed around HadGEM3, the latest version of the Met Office Hadley Centre climate model. GloSea4 can also be used as a monthly forecasting system and work is currently ongoing to extend it to decadal timescales.
Apart from including an improved model with increased resolution, numerous changes have taken place with respect to GloSea3: the system initialization; the representation of uncertainties in the initial conditions and the model; and the way of running and using hindcast data for calibration have all changed.
Rationale for these changes and results from GloSea4 will be presented. |
