| A combined medium-range and monthly forecasting system is now operational at
ECMWF. Previously those two systems were run separately. The new operational system produces skilful predictions of small scale, severe weather events in the early forecast range, accurate large-scale forecast guidance up to day 15 twice a day, and weekly mean large scale guidance up to day 32 once a week.
The technical and scientific merits of this seamless approach will be
discussed. The advantages of extending this system to seasonal forecasting
will be presented. |
