| Most energy extraction activities tend to create major soil disturbances. The extent of the effect on soil physical and chemical properties is a function of the care with which the soil is handled during the disturbance, and on the use of soil amendments to ameliorate the negative effects of soil disturbance, or to alter undesirable characteristics of some of the materials handled. Soil handling techniques during mining, their impacts on soils, reclamation activities to minimize those negative impacts, including the use of soil amendments will be discussed. |
